BIG LAKES LUMBER CO. - 1940's
May 27, 1943: “Kirk Hanlan and two others at present employed at Big Lakes Lumber Camp were taken to the hospital in Klamath Falls Tuesday evening to be treated for ptomaine poisoning. They were released the following morning.” (The Chiloquin Review)
April 20, 1944: “Mrs. J. Taylor is operating the Fort Klamath Hotel again after having spent the winter season in California at Long Beach. She intends to lease the hotel starting the first of the month to the Big Lakes Lumber company of Klamath Falls to handle their men for the logging season.” (The Chiloquin Review)
May 4, 1944: “The Big Lakes Lumber Company this week started in moving their logging crew into Fort Klamath preparatory to opening their logging operations on the Sun Mountain unit north of the town. They have leased the Fort Klamath hotel and its completely full. They also took the Schroeder cabins and part of the Sunset Auto court south of the junction. All other available housing was taken up by Wednesday nite and they were seemingly still short on space.
There were some thought it was said of opening the old hotel across the street from the Crater Lake Cafe, but there was nothing definite on that as yet. There was a possibility that it might be necessary for a couple of families to live here in Chiloquin and drive back and forth.” (The Chiloquin Review)
