CRATER LAKE LUMBER COMPANY

November 9, 1987: "Investigators went over the remains today of the Crater Lake Lumber Co. stud mill, looking for the cause of a fire that destroyed the main mill building.
About 150 mill workers were out of a job as a result of the Sunday fire, which shut down most operation at the biggest employer in the rural region centered about 50 miles north of Klamath Falls, said Mardell Hood, an arson investigator for the Chemult Rural Fire Protection District.
'It's quite a strike to this small of a community,' she said. "The mill part probably won't be rebuilt until spring. The planer will be running for a while longer as soon as they get electricity back.'
State Deputy Fire Marshall Floyd Wilton said the fire caused between $3 million and $5 million damage. The mill is located off U.S. Highway 97 between Chemult and Chiloquin on the east side of the Cascade Range." (The World)

November 10, 1987: "Investigators looked over the remains Monday of the Crater Lake Lumber Co. sawmill, searching for the cause of a fire that destroyed the main mill building.
Although the sawmill was destroyed in the Sunday fire, the planer and kilns at the stud mill employing 172 people would continue to operate on a limited basis, Alan Guggenheim, vice president of WTD Industries in Portland, said WTD bought the mill in March.
About 80 people worked in the sawmill, with others working in the planer and kiln drying operations, Guggenheim said.
'At this time, based on what we know, we intend to rebuild.' Guggenheim said." (Statesman Journal)
