August 10, 1918: "Fire, believed caused by explosion of an air tight stove, yesterday morning shortly after six o'clock, destroying the commissary building and office of the Kirk Lumber company at Kirk, 40 miles north of the city, according to H.L. Swift of that concern, who came in last evening. The loss is estimated at about $1000. A considerable amount of groceries and supplies were lost. The fire occurred while the men were all at breakfast." (The Evening Herald)

November 26, 1921: "About September 25th from Government Mill, one Iron Grey Dappled gelding, fifteen hundred, 7 years, no brand. When let, small scar on rump, gentle broke, last heard of about Oct. 1st, at Edwin Wilson ranch, south of Chiloquin.
