August 10, 1926: "With a fortune in pine timber and two small mills at stake, a small army of fire fighters is fighting this afternoon in a desperate effort to check the advance of a huge forest conflagration eight miles (east) of this city.
Two mills are in imminent danger of destruction. The Telford and Reed mill was believed to have been saved this afternoon, but the DeArmond mill, a small operation, was in the path of the flames." (The Evening Herald)

May 16, 1928: "James A. Ryan, 59, sustained injuries to his face and arms Monday morning which proved fatal, causing his death at 6:30 last night at a local hospital.
Ryan had started to work Monday morning at the Telford and Reed lumber mill at Swan Lake. He was driving a high spirited team in the yards when about 9 a.m. an unexpected lunge of the team threw Ryan against a pile of lumber, severely wounding his face and right arm, and severing the brachial nerves.
The injured man was rushed to this city to the hospital where he succumbed to his wounds last night.
Coroner Earl Whitlock investigated the accident and is awaiting a further interview with witnesses who returned to camp. It is probable that no inquest will be held since there was no one at fault." (The Klamath News)
